I have an addiction. I love transit, and that is an understatement. Since Christmas I’ve spent a lot of time both at the public and UVIC libraries digging through what they have about public transportation. I’ve found a few great books so far but the real goldmine was in UVIC’s special collections. In Summer of 2019, UVIC received a donation of a few very old transit schedules.

So I’ve been going a bit nuts over transit. I’ve found a great online community discussing its history and current operations, and I’ve even helped out the Royal BC Museum in developing a transportation-themed weekly program for guests (and I’ve very proud to have helped with it). On the inspiration of a member of the aforementioned transit community, I went out to explore some of the more remote bus routes in Victoria, such as the ones serving Brentwood Bay and North Saanich. I enjoyed a day of sometimes being the only person on a bus for up an an hour straight.
A little while I headed down to Seattle for a weekend on the Victoria Clipper, and while we focused on a common interest (the Woodland Park Zoo) I couldn’t help but hit up the Monorail, a 58-year-old system that, as far as I can tell, is unique. I enjoyed that greatly. For a system well over half a century old, it’s impressively smooth and quiet.
